Analysis Of Image And Trailer

Friday The 13th was produced by two film companies. Paramount Pictures, who
Produced the 8 nominated academy award winning films Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark with Harrison Ford. It was also produced, New Line Cinema, who produced one of Hollywood's major film studios, culminating in the hit Lord of the Rings the Trilogy. In Friday The 13th major celebrities should be expected to be in the upcoming Friday The 13th as previous movies from the studios had big actors.

The film poster of Friday The 13th the text is in white but also red which is an iconography of horror as red connotes blood and death and also connotes that this is a horror. Secondly in the middle of the poster there is a very large figure (Jason Voorhees) he has a huge knife in his hand and wears a mask which is iconography of horror as it connotes death and mystery. Also there is a mist in the background which could possibly connote that there is a mystery or twist in this film.

What is very shocking is that they have not included any names of the actors; this is possibly the film already has a huge franchise, fallary via the pereves film .The tagline “Welcome To Crystal Lake” tells the audience that the story is placed in “Crystal Lake”. USP is the use of telling the audience that they are “producers of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, as it makes other audiences that watched Chainsaw Massacre want to go and watch this film. The poster is aimed at male and women aged 18-45 as it is a horror and is most stereotypical ages used to watch a horror. Also is an iconography of horror is used effectively a dark forest and possibly connotes that it is a horror and gives clues to the audience of the films narrative and gives a little of what to expect.

The poster, doesn’t tells the audience what the narrative is, any clues just giving us the location and the main character. However I predict the actors will be A-list celebrities as from past movies from the label most of the actors were A-list known.

As a result the film poster is amateur compared to other Hollywood posters. There are some iconography and USP, but on a whole the poster is not the greatest I have seen.  Even the colors are two basic with a dark shade, however on the whole the film poster is ok.
In the film trailer of Friday The 13th a lot of more plot and detail are revealed. The trailer starts with a non-diegetic voiceover and last towards the end. The non-diegetic voice over gives information about the plot and the main character (Jason Voorhees). Also the voice over describes that “today is his birthday” and tells the audience the reason why it is called Friday The 13th as it is (Jason Voorees) “birthday”.

In the terms of mise-en-scene, the trailer effect deploy a whole load of it, for e.g., dark forest, knifes and huts. The use of diegetic-sounds connote that the film is a horror as they use screaming, slashes of knifes and howling of wolves. These me all very common in the horror genre, confiriming  Steve Nash theory of genre reputation and difference.

During the trailer you see a lot of mid shots and close ups as they intensify the characters emotions and what state they are. This technique makes the audience engage to the trailer, and feel as if they are there, once again very common in horror films. This trailer is aimed at 15- 45, as it is a more of a modern horror.

I believe that this film is related to the psychographics of aspirers as this a new and upgraded version of this franchise with new flashy and expensive effects which would imply to an aspire aspect. Also I believe that the demographics are presented to a C1 audience as it would cost a average £5-£10 to watch it which is a average price.

In conclusion I think the film trailer is much more effective compared to the poster, although they both convey the horror and drama. I feel the trailer is much more effective as most of the actual events from the film are used, therefore the audience will be very scared and make them want to go and watch them.

RollingStone Advert

Masthead
The masthead of the magazine ‘Rollingstone’ is partially blocked by the central image which portrays how powerful and known the magazine is as they do not show the whole title of the magazine and the audience recognise the magazine.
Image
The central image is of the famous hip-hop artist ‘Lil Wayne’. He is presented to be facing straight at the camera with a gesture of his hands on his belt buckle. Firstly, the amount of tattoos presented on his body could maybe portray to the audience that he is very dangerous as most stereotypical people would argue to say most criminals have a whole load of tattoos. Also the way that he is gestured could also connote the amount of power and danger he brings as he is posing very confident towards the camera. Which is very stereotypical about this picture is the use of his trousers being very low that you can even see his boxers which could imply to a stereotypical person that he is a thug or criminal as most thugs are portrayed in this way. Lastly, the use of platinum diamonds on his wrist connotes to the audience that he is very rich as he can afford such high price accessories.
Design
The design of the magazine is very basic and ordinary with the uses of putting sidelines on the side and the central image in the middle and a big bold title. However, what I pointed out before is the use of not showing all of their title which connotes how powerful and known they are as they don’t have to include their whole name in their title. Also the use of making their sidelines in big bold letters to grab the audience attention to look at what they are advertising is a very clever and effective idea, also the use of using the same colours red and black.
Sell Lines
There use of sell lines are very simple but clever at the same time as they make it big and bold so they make sure the audience don’t miss out on anything that they have produced on the front cover. Also the likes of famous artist’s as ‘Jimmy Carter’ and ‘Steven Tyler’ implies how powerful their magazine is as they even have more known and dangerous music artists then Lil Wayne and that goes to show that they are a very strong brand.
Audience
The audience is obviously attracted to music fans as it has all the mise en scene and iconography for a music genre. The uses of Lil Wayne to the other music artist Jimmy Carter portrays to the audience that this is directly targeted to a music audience. Also the title ‘Rolling stones’ connotes a rock band or somewhere in the music genre.
Representation
‘Rollingstones’ is represented to be a very strong brand towards magazines in the music genre or even in a whole of all the genres in the media world. The unique way of covering up there masthead and still be recognised connotes to us how known and powerful this magazine is. Also, the amount of powerful celebrities they have on their magazine implies how recommended there magazine is as they have powerful people on it. Also which emphasizes how strong their magazine is that it is so basic yet so powerful and unique for consumers to recommend it.

Kidulthood First 5 Minutes Into Film

The first five minutes of watching the famous film 'Kidulthood' i had very different opinions going threw my mind when watching the way they portrayed the young generation in the UK, the use of kids doing drugs in the playground to the disgusting violence towards one another and the fowl language being used by one another. They were connoted to be such a threat and danger towards the whole society and possibly brings an thought to the readers a very negative side to teenagers. i strongly believe that they are really portrayed in a wrong way though, as most teenagers do not act how they are represented in the film which is very unfair for teenagers as they can not have the power to prove audiences that they are not seen as what they are portrayed in 'Kidulthood'

The Amazing Spider-Man Film Poster Analysis

The poster is divided into many bright colors and also a very different unique shot which brings out the power and agility of spiderman. For instance the type of colors used, the blue on spiderman most probably connotes depression or coldness which creates a quite curious and cold atmosphere for the audience, this probably aplies the film might be quite a very dark and physical atmosphere. Also the red possibly connotes a bit of power and and evilness which mixes into the blue which could possibly connote his powers are so incredible that he can choose whether he wants to be the good person or the bad.

The use of 'New York City' being at the bottom of spiderman portrays that he must probably have so much power that he owns the city as being on top of it shows the ultimate power he has in his hands. And also from putting him in such a high place of the city shows that he must really be at the top of the border when be recognised in the area and city. also the use of him hanging dennotates to the audience one of the uses from his powers as he can hang on walls which connotes the amount of power he obtains and owns in his ability to do extrodianary things.
